Favorite Equinox is the victor at the Tenno-sho horse race. It is his fifth G1 race victory. Also, Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako were present at the race. Jockey Christophe Lemaire rode the top-rated horse that finished ahead of Justin Palace. In addition, Equinox broke the track Tokyo Racecourse record with a time of 1 minute, 55.2 seconds.
People who bet on horses celebrated when Equinox won the Dubai Sheema Classic in March. It was one of the seven career victories for the 4-year-old horse.
With only approximately 400 meters to go, Equinox snatched the lead. It never looked back, allowing him to become only the third horse in history to win consecutive autumn Tenno-sho races.
After trailing Justin Palace by 1-1/4 lengths, Prognosis finished third. Do Deuce, ridden by Keita Tosaki in lieu of the injured Yutaka Take, finished in seventh position. This was the first time a reigning emperor had seen a horse race since Akihito attended the same event in October 2012.
Equinox Wins 5th Straight G1 Race
As the horses headed for home with 500 meters, including the uphill portion of the stretch, Jack d’Or had had enough and gave the lead to Gaia Force. When Lemaire tapped Equinox on the shoulder at the 300-meter mark as a reminder, the race was over.
In second place was Justin Palace, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of third-place Prognosis. Joao Moreira rode Danon Beluga to fourth place, while Jack d’Or was the last to cross the finish line. Many people like to bet on sports in Korea, including horse races.
According to sports betting news reports, Equinox’s competition was not exactly weak. In March, in 3,200 meters (approximately 2 miles), Justin Palace won the Tenno Sho (Spring) (G1) race. Before the Tenno Sho, the day before the W.S. Cox Plate (G1) in Australia, Romantic Warrior won the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (G1) at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. Prognosis finished in second place.
Danon Beluga finished behind Nord North and Time Bomb in the March 2022 Dubai Turf (G1) and finished third in the 2022 Tenno Sho (Autumn). Do Deuce, who placed sixth, took first place in the 2022 Tokyo Yushun (Japanese Derby-G1).
